Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), and the Significance of Maintaining Vaginal pH

Our bodies contain bacteria, both internally and externally. Some bacteria can be classified as healthy while other bacteria can be harmful. Lactobacillus found in the vagina is classified as healthy bacteria.

The pH of the vagina plays an important role in determining the health of vaginal flora. The degrees of acidity or alkalinity are expressed in pH values. The higher or more alkaline the pH, the more harmful bacteria will grow and kill off the beneficial lactobacilli.

Relagard is for the maintenance of pH of around 4.0 when vaginal pH becomes more alkaline. Infectious bacteria and yeast grow slowly at a pH of around 4.0 while lactic acid producting lactobacilli flourish in an acidic medium.
